2013 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai is rolling out the 2013 models and Keffer Hyundai has the new Sonata available for you. It has three different trim levels. All three can be equipped with a 2.4L 190HP inline-4 with gasoline direct injection. The upper-tier SE and Limited can also sport a 2.0L 274HP turbo, and also has GDI. The 6-speed automatic transmission can have steering wheel paddle shifters if you're buying the Limited with the turbo. The base GLS gets a combined 24MPG, the SE 35MPG and the Limited 28MPG; the turbo gets just slightly less for the SE and Limited.

Inside the Sonata has the Blue Link technology, Bluetooth and auxiliary audio inputs. The telescopic steering has tilt, audio, and cruise control buttons. The safety features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control System, and an Anti-lock Braking System with Brake Assist. All trims have heated front seats, the SE gets you a powered driver's seat and the Limited will heat your rear seats as well. There are many more features that come standard on this great sedan, and there is an upgrade package available for each. Some features, like the reverse camera, are not available on the GLS.

Hyundai Motor America’s motto relates their dedication to being a responsible member of the community, their main focus being the health and education of children. Keffer Hyundai showed their support by participating in the area’s “Light It Up Blue” Gala. The event helped raise funds and awareness for Autism Speaks, a non-profit “dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism.” It was Keffer’s second year of participation.

Hyundai Motor America participated, for the third time, in the national Walk Now for Autism Speaks. It featured more than 30,000 participants in and around the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Hyundai Motor America’s headquarters are just 50 miles away in Costa Mesa, CA.

The 5K walk/run was led by a 2012 Hyundai Tucson, the official pace car.

The 2012 Hyundai Tucson is available with either a 165HP 2.0L four-cylinder, or a 176HP 2.4L engine. The former gets up to 23 city/31 highway MPG while the latter gets up to 22 city/32 highway MPG. There are five trim levels available, all coming with Hyundai’s outstanding safety features; the multiple side and curtain airbags and traction and stability control. They also all come standard with Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity, and satellite radio.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), autism affects about 1 in every 88 American children, nearly 1 in 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls. Autism is a condition that affects a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges. Current statics show Autism spectrum disorder affects more children than diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome, combined.

The 2012 Hyundai Azera

Those unfamiliar with the Azerashould acquaint themselves with this full-sized sedan; those who are familiar should reacquaint themselves, as the 2012 model is a whole new machine.

For drivers who find the Genesis a bit out of their price range, the new Azera is a happy edition to the Hyundai fleet. It comes standard with more than the usual luxuries, including heated front and rear seats, which can be upgraded to heated and cooled. Also on the base model you’ll get a touch-screen navigation system, adjustable telescopic steering, a back-up camera and Hyundai’s Blue Linktelematics system.

The front-wheel drive Azera is powered by a 3.3L V6 that generates 293HP and gets you 0-60 in the neighborhood of six seconds. You’ll do all your driving in complete comfort as the interior is one of the roomiest in its class and full size adults will even find the back seats more than accommodating, even when you’re sitting behind a taller-than-average driver. With its nine air bags, ABS, stability and traction control, the Azera is stocked with safety features, though test and ratings were incomplete as of today.

In addition to the ample leg room, the Azera also has ample storage space for your smaller items like cups and sunglasses and there’s more than enough trunk space to hold your luggage for that weekend trip.

Hyundai Has Begun its 14th Annual “Hope on Wheels”

Every time a New Hyundai is purchased in the U.S. a donation is made to their non-profit charity called Hope on Wheels. Since the charity’s inception in 1998, Hyundai has donated more than $43 million to fund pediatric cancer research. In 2006, Hyundai began holding ceremonies to award the grants around the country, calling it the Hyundai Hope on Wheels Scholar Tour. While there is no date set as of yet, there will be an event held just down the road at Levine Children's Hospital (Carolinas Medical Center), and a little farther away at Duke University Medical Center. In addition to the tour, Hyundai and its dealers will hold special events during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, in September. The charity awards grants and scholarships to researchers, institutions, and programs that help children battle and overcome cancer. Hyundai also uses the publicity of the tour to raise awareness and donations for this noble cause. The tour features a white Hyundai Santa Fe or Tuscan which serves as a canvas that receives hand prints from the youths battling and overcoming cancer.

2013: Today

The 2013 model year is already here as Hyundai has introduced the Elantra Sedan. Though the GT and the Coupe are going to get a lot of attention, this sedan is going to make many owners very happy. Carrying over the excellence of 2012’s Car of the year, the 2013 will be just as efficient, with a 29 city, 40 highway MPG. The list of standard features has grown to include a telescopic steering wheel, air-conditioning, and cruise control. As with the 2012 there will be a 1.8L, inline 4 cylinder engine that puts out 148HP. Also mimicking the 2012, the new edition will be an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. As the saying goes “If it aint broke, don’t fix it.” Hyundai knows the 2012 was nowhere near the broke category. We feel the 2013 is the exact opposite of broke and challenge you to come to Keffer Hyundai and drive one yourself to see if you disagree.

Welcome a New Member to the Hyundai Family

Continuing their promise of seven new models in eleven months; Hyundai is expanding their Elantra line with the “Fluidic Sculpture” designed Elantra GT. Given its sibling, the Elantra, won “North American Car of the Year”, expect the GT to shake up the hatchback world. Lighter by hundreds of pounds than its rivals; it will get nearly 40 MPG highway. It will feature an inline-4 1.8L capable of giving you 148 HP while still being as “clean” as some hybrids. The GT is deceptively roomy on the inside as it capable of comfortably seating five people. It will feature comfort, normal, and sport steering options which you can select right from the control panel (a first for Hyundai.) Also standard are multiple safety features, including driver-side knee airbags, multiple traction and stability controls, and ABS. Speculation Mounts Ahead of 2012 New York Auto Show

This is the 2013 Santa Fe. Expect it to be showcased at the upcoming New York Auto Show, April 6-15. It will go on sale sometime later this year. The stylings suggest that Hyundai is taking the best attributes of its other models and building a super collage-esque design. Adopting a hexagonal grill, reminiscent of the Veloster and headlight styling similar to that of the Genesis, The Santa Fe continues to blur the line between SUV and Sedan. Speculation persists about multiple variations of the crossover including an elongated version that features a third row of seats. It may also come with either a “I”4-cylander, a turbo-charged 3.5L V6 or both. Enthusiasts are hoping for the later as it would produce nearly 300HP and make it very attractive when compared to some of the other established models in its class.

It is a good bet that production of its sibling, the Hyundai Santa Fe Blue Hybrid, will get similar upgrades as it seems this marks the beginning of the 3^rd generation Hyundai. It is also certain that the 2013 Santa Fe will continue to have one of the lowest insurance rates, due to safety and reliability; as well as being one of the best purchases overall. The EPA 2011 Light-Duty Automotive Technology and Fuel Economy Trends Report shows that as a whole, Hyundai is the best on fuel efficiency and emissions. Hyundai also double-dipped the honors back in 2008. More importantly, projections have the automaker repeating in 2012.

Having such an asset as the Elantra to count among its ranks, it’s no wonder Hyundai is doing so well as of late. All of the consumer feedback has been impressive. With an average combined MPG of 35, the true experience varies only slightly from what’s posted on the sticker. Everyone loves how he Elantra accommodates all drivers; big and small. Great news for Genesis Owners

J.D. Power and Associates Ranked the Hyundai Genesis as the top performer in a recent dependability study that tracked automobiles over a three year span. It beat out all other cars in its class, including the BMW 5 series. Coincidentally the Genesis won North American Car of the year in 2009; looks like they knew what they were talking about. The 2012 Model is quite the car as well. It makes a great argument that the other Luxury Sedans in its class are over-priced; as it scores: an 8.2 on exterior, an 8.9 on interior, a 10.0 on safety, and a 9.0 on projected reliability.

Keffer Hyundai Excels in CPO Sales

Keffer Hyundai has been recently profiled by AutoRemarketing on the dealership’s Certified Pre-owned Sales. The Hyundai store, located in Matthews just outside of Charlotte is currently the ranked 2^nd in CPO sales. That ranking does not leave General Manager Dewayne Moser Satisfied, “We’re number two year-to-date with CPO sales, and we’ve had a goal all year of being number one,” The article highlights several things that have allowed Keffer to excel in CPO sales. For Dewayne Moser training is priority one.

“That’s probably step one … making sure those guys know the program. Because if our guys don’t know it, then once people call or email in, they can’t explain to them why it’s a value,” Moser continued.

With his employees well trained, Mr. Moser and his team can capitalize on adverting and sourcing the CPO program.

“You’ve got to stock the cars to sell them, so we’ve made investments to go out to the auctions or be more aggressive on new-car trades. A lot of our CPOs come from new-car trade-ins,” he highlighted. Moser continued: “Then you have to advertise so you can get the customers to come in for the cars. “We’ve done all three,” he added, referring to training, stocking and marketing.

Securing a steady supply of CPO cars can be challenging when the cars are in such a high demand. “It has been a challenge,” Moser noted, saying that the supply challenge has allowed the store to be more aggressive when going after new-car deals from customers in its database. “I’d rather pay up for a car from a customer than at an auction,” he added.

Complicating that, of course, has been the industry-wide slowdown in lease returns, stemming from the leasing drought in late 2008. Lease returns are often a main avenue for dealerships to generate the necessary CPO supply.

As for getting the word out to consumers about CPO, the “main driver” Moser said, has mostly been radio. Though the accomplishments are many, Keffer is not alone in its CPO success. Hyundai, overall, has had a strong year for certified sales.

For the fifth straight year, Volvo earned the top ranking among Premium manufacturers, while Hyundai was ranked highest among Popular vehicle brands.

Each year, IntelliChoice issues the industry’s only independent report card comparing Certified Pre-Owned programs offered to consumers through franchise dealerships. Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles (CPOs) are cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles that have come off lease or have been resold to dealers, and have been thoroughly inspected prior to sale. Car manufacturers have traditionally refined and augmented their programs based on the criteria employed by IntelliChoice in its benchmarking analysis, in an effort to compete more effectively in the marketplace for certified used cars.

“Since 2008, Hyundai had placed third overall in the Popular category, but was finally able to break into the top spot overtaking the two previous winners, MINI and Volkswagen,” said Eric Anderson, senior analyst at IntelliChoice. “While Volvo was able to retain its top ranking in the Premium category, Cadillac and Porsche are not far behind.”

Tyler Schulze, vice president and general manager of IntelliChoice, added, “The Certified Pre-Owned segment of the market continues to be very important to manufacturers and dealers alike, particularly due to the recent contraction in used-vehicle inventory levels. The ability for dealers to certify their best used cars and trucks under a compelling program sponsored by the manufacturer is a clear win for both the consumer and the dealer. We continue to see marginal year-over-year improvements in CPO program features across all makes, indicating that consumers can benefit from the ever-increasing competition in this market segment.”

Hyundai and BMW to Partner

While BMW (and by relation, Mini) have been pioneering in-car connectivity for the last few years, Hyundai is still playing catch-up. The Korean automaker's focus has been squarely set on bringing world-beating products to market, but consumer demand for infotainment systems isn't abating. So Hyundai is joining BMW and a range of technology companies to work on the next generation of in-car networking solutions.

Broadcom, NXP, Freescale and Harman have banded together to create the OPEN (One-Pair Ether-Net) Alliance special interest group and BMW and Hyundai are the first two automakers to sign on.

The group will be working towards ethernet-based automotive connectivity, but that doesn't mean you'll be running a CAT5 cable out your house and into car.

The SIG is backing Broadcom's BroadR-Reach cable – specifically developed for automotive applications – that's able to transmit up to 100 Mbps over a single, unshieled wire. This should reduce internal networking costs and also shave a few pounds from production vehicles in the process.

2012 Hyundai Azera

The 2006 Azera was the first shot that Hyundai took at going upmarket, a big, soft, front-wheel-drive sedan packed with content and offered at a bargain price compared to the Toyota Avalon and Buick LaCrosse. But today, this Korean import seems more like it comes from the Island of Misfit Toys. Azera has quietly persisted while Hyundai has launched several well-received models, from the Genesis to the 2011 Sonatato the brand-new Veloster. Now comes the Azera's 15 minutes of fame, in the form of a complete overhaul for 2012 designed to make the Azera more of a premium offering.

The new Azera adopts Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpturedesign language that we've loved on the Sonata, but in this application something went amiss. Everything looks good up front, as the Azera's Fluidic front fascia looks similarly aggressive. But follow the attractive chrome trim strip back from the headlights and something goes bump in the night. The Azera's rear quarter panel retains a bulging character line similar to the old model, except that in the new sheet metal the flanks are even more pronounced – and Buick-like. Things get better out back, as the new Azera has an elegant decklid and rear taillights that wouldn't look out of place on any luxury car.

Underhood, the second-generation Azera gets a new 3.3-liter V6 with direct injection. This "Lambda II" powerplant is good for 293 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque, while providing an estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 29 on the highway. Hyundai has also fitted the new Azera with its Active Eco mode, which should be good for a five-percent boost in fuel economy, according to the automaker. Like the old Azera, power is fed to the front wheels through a six-speed transaxle.

Standard Azera equipment includes some formerly optional content, like a navigation system with rearview camera, and Hyundai is also equipping Azeras with its Blue Link telematics system. Leather interior with heated front and rear seats, 18-inch alloys, and Vehicle Stability Management are all included, as well.

Less is more... Elantra Coupe coming in 2013

Hyundai has just confirmed that a two-door coupe version of the Elantra is coming, but despite prior speculation pegging its debut at next week's LA Auto Show, the Korean automaker will be waiting until next February at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show to do the reveal.

We've seen the car, and the Elantra Coupe looks much like your regular four-door Elantra but with two less ports of entry and a much more sporting flair. Hyundai hopes to differentiate the coupe from the sedan by giving it a different set of gear ratios for a more sporting driving experience. The Elantra Coupe will also get its own unique SE trim level, which as we know based on Hyundai's traditional trim designations, is the sporty trim. The company expects the coupe to make up 20 percent of the Elantra's volume, and its obvious target is the Honda Civic Coupe, as well as the Kia Forte Koup that will share the same basic underpinnings.

In other Elantra news, Hyundai has also confirmed that a new five-door Elantra, heretofore called the Elantra Touring, will arrive in 2013. We've already seen this model; it's called the i30 in Europe where it's already debuted. The new five-door hatchback will not, however, retain the Elantra Touring name. Hyundai is keeping the new name close to its chest, but did tell us that the car will be called "Elantra something."

We already know that the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will make its debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January, but now, details about what's behind that newly sculpted, Veloster-inspired front fascia have finally surfaced.

According to Car and Driver, the four- and six-cylinder engines found under the coupe's newly designed hood are coming in for significant upgrades. The 3.8-liter Lambda V6 now uses direct-injection technology (just like in the updated 2012 Genesis sedan), but instead of matching the four-door's 333 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque, Hyundai has further massaged this engine to the tune of 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of twist. That means the Korean coupe will put down more horsepower than many of its American and Japanese six-cylinder rivals, specifically the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Nissan 370Z.

There's good news for turbo-four enthusiasts, as well. Hyundai's 2.0-liter inline-four receives a new twin-scroll turbo unit and an upgraded intercooler, meaning there's now 271 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque on tap. Both the four- and six-cylinder engines are now available with eight-speed automatic transmissions, but those who prefer to row their own gears will almost certainly still be able to opt for a six-speed manual gearbox with either engine. Hyundai Planning Big Things for Super Bowl

Hyundai is practically a regular at the Super Bowl by now, having run Big Game spots touting the Genesis,Genesis Coupe, Elantra and Brett Favre over the past few years. Those ads focused on more practical reasons to buy a Hyundai. This year, Hyundai's intent on "sparking an emotional connection with consumers" with an ad that is as super as its backdrop.

With quips that sound like a halftime go-git-'em talk, Hyundai's VP of marketing said, "We're making Super Bowl spots. We need to get that headset on. The bar is high." All we're left to wonder is what kind of direction Hyundai plans to go – taking a look at other industry offerings, Chevy had its historic Volt, BMWhad its clean diesel drifting, sister-brand Kia went CG blockbuster with its Optima Epic Ride, Bridgestone had its popular Beaver, and Volkswagen had its just-as-popular Black Betty. Oh, and VW also had its intergalactically popular Darth Vader. There was that little something about being Imported from Detroit as well...

Genesis Coupe V8?

Between a steady flow of racers like the RMR Red Bull Hyundai Veloster rally car and four solid years of wild SEMA show cars, it’s safe to say that Hyundai and Rhys Millen have a healthy relationship. It continues this year on the first of November when another car debuts in Las Vegas, and according to this teaser video, it’ll be “something special.” We also know it’ll be a Genesis Coupe.

Millen took a break from tuning Genesis models last year with an ostrich-leather–lined Equus, but if we look back to 2009, this new project has a pretty high bar to pass. That year, RMR created the V-8–powered, mid-engined RM460from a Genny coupe. We’ve watched the teaser video a few times now, but it’s still hard to predict just how Millen plans to surprise the crowd. A lot of fiberglass will be involved, and while the one engine shot features a strong shadow, we think we see enough coil packs to suggest another V-8. Considering that RM460 packed 500 horsepower, this car has to aim higher. Is the world ready for a 600-hp Hyundai? Maybe we’ll find out next week.

Supercharged Hyundai Genesis Hurricane SC to bow at SEMA

Keffer Hyundai is proud to announce that the 2012 Veloster may be Hyundai's new hotness, but the Genesis Coupe is still its flagship performance car. And with this year's SEMA show right around the corner, Hyundai is quickly readying a full fleet of tuner cars to debut in Las Vegas. Here, we see the Genesis Hurricane SC – a collaboration between the Hyundai America Technical Center (HATCI) located near Ann Arbor, Michigan, and companies like Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc.

As its name suggests, the swan song of this tuned Genesis Coupe is its engine – a supercharged version of Hyundai's 3.8-liter V6. Adding this supercharger means the Hurricane is good for more than 450 horsepower, and Torvec Inc. has fitted its IsoTorque differential to allow for improved handling and traction. When tested on the road course at Hyundai's proving grounds, this new differential allowed the Hurricane to be one second quicker lap over lap than a standard Genesis Coupe.

Rhys Millen Racing provided the new front bumper, grille, side skirts, hood, diffuser and rear deck, and the company's partners – Enkei and Hankook – are responsible for the 19-inch wheel and tire package. Inside, there's a high-level Lexicon audio system and custom Katzkin leather upholstery with blue suede inserts on the seats. After all, it wouldn't be SEMA without heaps of suede.

ARK Performance Develops Its Own Version of the Veloster

After our first drive of the Hyundai Veloster, we described the three-door hatch as an 'eco-sport' rather than an 'all-out performance car'. The 1.6-liter four-pot under the hood produces 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet torque, which provided 'adequately entertaining' acceleration. In other words, we wouldn't mind one bit if the Veloster got an extra dose of power.

The folks over at ARK Performance were thinking the same thing, and are set to debut a custom Veloster at SEMA in November with an extra dose of oomph under the hood. The additional ponies – 210 in total – comes courtesy of intercooled turbocharger system and a high-flow exhaust system. ARK has also worked over the rest of the Veloster with six-piston front brakes, coilover suspension system, custom Alcantara interior and a widebody kit with green and grey graphics.

We may not have any Velosters with this package from ARK performance, but at Keffer Hyundai in Charlotte but we do have some brand new Velosters that won't last long.

Hyundai to Develop 10 Speed Transmission

Motor Trend is reporting that Hyundai and Kia are working on creating a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The dual-headed Korean automaker unveiled a new eight-speed automatic gearbox in the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Sedan. Along with revisions to the 3.8-liter V6 engine, the transmission helped the model generate up to two miles per gallon better on the highway than its predecessor. According to Motor Trend, news of the 10-speed transmission comes courtesy of unnamed sources inside Bloomberg, and the technology could show up in a production model as soon as 2014. Beyond that, details are notably scarce. Two extra cogs would likely help improve fuel economy at a moderate cost to the company and consumer, especially if engineers were able to translate much of the design of the eight-speed into the new gearbox.

Hyundai is proud to announce that it is a sponsor of “Thursday Night Football.” The sponsorship is just one element of Hyundai’s multi-pronged college football marketing program designed to connect the loyalty of Hyundai owners with the passion of college football fans and the traditions of college football teams across the nation. Hyundai has also established official sponsorship relationships with 15 schools, and will add nine more next season, providing on-site sponsorship, marketing, media and hospitality opportunities.

The overall program includes 64 experiential on-site displays at some of this season’s most high-profile matchups, print, online and local media support, and in-game advertising during 13 featured games across ABC’s family of networks including ESPN and ESPN2.

The campaign continues Hyundai’s overarching marketing strategy of “Big Voices in Big Places,” ensuring that Hyundai’s brand is represented in the nation’s most high-profile events and attractions including the Super Bowl and Academy Awards. The campaign will build upon Hyundai’s number one Owner Loyalty ranking from Kelley Blue Book’s www.kbb.com.

“College football is all about tradition, loyalty and passionate fans, and no one appreciates that more than Hyundai,” said Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “Hyundai owners love their cars, so it’s no surprise that their support has pushed us to the top of consumer loyalty rankings.”

Hyundai’s support for college football brings the brand directly to the fans through a multi-year agreement with IMG College, which manages the media and sponsorship rights for the schools Hyundai is partnering with, and helped develop the local campus marketing programs. Amidst tailgating and pre-game celebrations, Hyundai has established official sponsor relationships with 15 of the most historic football programs in the country, with the most loyal and passionate fan bases, to bring vehicle and information displays to 64 games this year. The 15 teams include: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Auburn, Cal, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia Tech.

Game-day display elements will include on-field promotions, on-site displays, tickets for hospitality and unique giveaways. Hyundai’s engagement will grow from 15 teams in 2011 to 24 in 2012, extending its relationship with college football and its fans.

Hyundai’s partnership with ESPN as the presenting sponsor of Thursday Night College Football Live includes seven executions of programs on ESPN/ESPN2. The current schedule includes programming on September 15 and 29, October 6, 13, 20 and 27, and November 10. The creative will focus on connecting fans’ passion for their teams to consumers’ passion for Hyundai, and spots will run both pre-show and in-game. In addition, Hyundai will extend the loyalty message into ESPN Magazine’s college football coverage throughout the season.

In addition to Thursday night games, Hyundai spots will appear in additional Saturday broadcasts, weaving Hyundai into 13 of the most highly anticipated matchups of the college football season.

Digital extensions include sponsorship of the online CFB Live show every Wednesday of the season, sponsorship of conversation surrounding a game each week that had the best home field advantage and integration into Facebook and Twitter.

Hyundai’s support of college football continues with local television advertising in 16 key markets spanning across the Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, ACC, SEC and Big East.

"First, let's talk about those doors. From the driver's side, the Veloster appears to be a coupe, with one large traditional entry door. However, the passenger side is configured with two front-hinged doors - making it appear to be more of a sedan. The handle for the rear door is hidden in the C-pillar (just like the Acura ZDX). Pop it open, and it swings as widely as the door in front of it. The door opens and closes independent on the front passenger door - it is not a smaller "suicide" access door like those of the Mazda RX-8 or the Mini Clubman. To open the rear hatch, just find the handle conveniently hidden under the rear badge. There is a lot of room in there, especially with the split seats folded down. Hyundai says the Veloster's total interior volume beats the current-generation Scion tC, Honda CR-Z, Mini Cooper hardtop and Mini Clubman, and we believe them."
